Reels and Wheels

Most CDs produced for Scottish Country Dancing will contain a smattering of unknown dances but some are commissioned to advertise dances that have been written by one individual or members of a single club and these are likely to have few if any known dances on them.

In 2001 the Falkirk Branch of the RSCDS released a CD called Reels and Wheels - the Falkirk Wheel being a spectacular boat lift linking the Forth & Clyde and Union canals that are separated by a vertical distance of 115 feet. The music is provided by the superb Gordon Shand and his band but, because only 2 of the dances are known in this area, there has been little opportunity to use this CD at our dance class.

However, this CD has, as part of its sleeve notes, detailed instructions for all the dances and this evening we will try out as many as possible of them. As none of us will have danced them before all dances will be walked through and, you never know, there may be a fantastic dance just waiting to be discovered!

The dances are:

1     Sarah's Favourite (8x32 Jig)
2.    Welcome To Callum (4x32 Reel)
3.    The Falkirk Bairn (4x32 Strathspey)
4.    The Falkirk Millennium Wheel (1x96 Reel)
