Fantasy Scottish Dance Demonstration Team

In 1988 two American Football fans invented the concept of Fantasy Football, where people select a virtual team of top players and see how they perform against their friends' teams. In the 20 or so years since, this concept has become very popular and spread to other team sports such as cricket, F1 motor racing and rugby to name but a few. I have even seen a Fantasy Scottish Dance Band game where people try to choose bands made up of the shortest, fattest or richest musicians!

So, I thought it might be an interesting challenge to see if I could devise a Fantasy Demonstration Team from people who have had dances devised for them. I have set myself some rules:

1) Every couple has to be a Lady and a Gentleman.

2) No dance titles to include anything other than the person's name (including salutation)

            - no Margaret Parker's Strathspey or Miss Johnstone of Ardrossan for example.

3) The dances must be arranged to produce a reasonable dance programme

            - it must follow the standard Jig, Reel, Strathspey sequence.

I decided on a 5 couple set for my team and allowed myself the liberty of naming the ladies first in each couple. This is what I came up with:

First Couple J Miss Allie Anderson
R Angus MacLeod
Second Couple S Mary Hamilton
J Major Ian Stewart
Third Couple R Mrs Stuart Linnell
S John MacAlpin
Fourth Couple J Miss Hilary Ann
R Scott Meikle
Fifth Couple S Alison Rose
J James Gray

Why not come up with your own fantasy dance programme? Doesn't need to be people it could be anything - all dances about a castle or those with a city or town in the title for example. Set yourself appropriate rules similar to the ones above and see what you come up with. Bring your teams along to the social and we can compare and discuss!
